Shabbat (also known as the Sabbath or Shabbos) is the weekly day of rest and spiritual renewal, observed from just before sunset on Friday until nightfall on Saturday. It commemorates God resting on the seventh day of creation and the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.
